Joseph Ratzinger has been elected the new pope, taking the papal name of Pope Benedict XVI. He is 78 years old.

Now, its all well and good having a man with experiance, but when they have been able to collect a pension for nearly 15 year, questions of sutability come into question.

Ratzinger is part of the old school, not a fan of Homosexuals and other "godless modern trends"

Ratzinger, dean of the cardinals, had dominated the Vatican since the death of Pope John Paul on April 2. He presided over the funeral Mass and daily meetings of cardinals since then.
He used a homily at a Mass before the conclave to issue a stern warning that godless modern trends must be rejected. The address was widely seen as promoting his candidacy.
Ratzinger's stern leadership of the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith, the modern successor to the Inquisition, delighted conservative Catholics but upset moderates and other Christians whose churches he described as deficient.

Ironically, Pope John Paul 2 was Polish and Ratzinger is a German who may have been a member of Hitler Youth.....it makes you think

Politics on the Weekend

The Maori Party showed promise this weekend with the release of a poll in the sunday star times. It has the Maori Party winning 5 out of 7 maori seats.

Interestingly, the Maori Party candidate for northern maori, Hone Harawira, who is predicted to win by a landslide has stated in the past that he would not turn up to parliament. Doesnt that inspire confidence.

As many of you are well aware, if National gets into power at the upcoming election they plan to abolish the maori seats. This makes sense when you have candidates like Hone Harawira stating they will not turn up to parliament, and properly fulfilling the job they have been elected to.

i am currently studying a politics paper concerning electoral systems.

The New zealand parliament, as we all know have 120 MP's

The British Parlaiment (lower house) has 659 MP's

If we break down the figure, New Zealand has one MP for every 34167 people (ish)

The British parliament has one MP for every 91047 people (ish)

Dont you wish that was the case, cos then there would only be around 20 labour MP s!!!!!!!!

Indonesians on drugs

The case of the australian girl in indonesia kept on drugs charges baffles me! Here is a girl that may or may not have committed a crime and may face death if convicted. Another lady in a prison over there from new zealand is already serving 25 years. What i cannot seem to fathom, is the fact that this ladycould get a larger scentence than the mastermind of the bali bomber, who only faces 2.5 years.....I think they need to look closely at themselves and determine whether it is them who are on drugs

As a criminology student, i can see through the blatent lying of the Labour Govenment...pity the opposition cant.

The Crime rate is a flawed statistic. Only crime that is reported can be reported. Therefore, the crime rate can be interpreted in a series of ways. George Hawkins will continue to proudly state that crime is down 8.3%, however i would like to add my thoughts to that fact.....is that 8.3% decrease in the crime rate a decrease in crime, or a 8.3% decrease in people reporting crime, as they have no faith in a police force that fails to do its primary job of protecting the citizens of this country, and would rather send detectives on traffic duty who give people like me a fine for driving a little too fast....

and even then, they cannot catch someone doing 15o kms an hour in a crown car on the way to a rugby match

all right guys, its time to kick this puppy into gear.

a couple of thoughts i have had....
1) Isn't the fact that Helen Clark has diffused the Tamahere situation by being threatened by a bung plane amazing. I think a conspiracy theory is on the cards. Did the plane actually have a bung door, or is it a clever ploy by the Labour party to draw attention from the "Maori Boy"

My Partner and I went and visited her friend the other day, and found out, much to my amazement that she is now a member of the Destiny Church.

I cannot understand this. Excuse my for being a Selfish Capitalist, but why would someone want to donate 10% of their earning to a man that must own more hair product than the lcal New World supermarket.

Destiny Church, in my eyes,is run by a man that is no more than a common thief, robbing his faithfull out of Hard earned money so he can ride a Harley Davidson and dress in leather.

Enough is indeed enough, we must rid this country of evangelical nutters like brian tamaki before they get more power

While driving my Car, which happens to be one of the best capitalist ideas ever, i spotted a rather funny sight. Personalised licence plates seem to be the "in" thing if you are advertising your business, and a certain Drain unblocking service will be getting my business now because of their plate...which spelt....GROGAN

The farce that is Parliament

As many of you will no doubt be aware of, i may be described as a filthy capitalist. I happened to have been strolling down through the centre of wellington admiring all of the multi national corporations when i thought it may be a good idea to visit parliament.

WHAT A JOKE

Why have national scrapped good old cathy as welfare spokesman and replaced her with judith collins. The national party front bench have lost their only member of the fairer sex, and it now resembles a butchers shop, i.e one hell of a lot of sausages. Not only this, but many of the sausages are a little past their sell by date. This could be detremental to the health of the party

And as for Aunty Helen, can you please tell me how someone can become prime minister and make a living out of speaches that just rubbish any differing opinions of hers
